I struggle with good-byes and writing this letter is proving to be no exception. This is hard because SEARCH has played such as major role in my life and development up until this point. I still have a hard time believing that my days as executive director are limited, however, I know that my experiences with SEARCH will also continue to follow me as I move into the next stage of my career.
The last 3 years have been incredibly rewarding and I feel so fortunate to have been able to share in this time with so many wonderful and inspiring individuals. There really are so many people that have inputted their talents to ensure SEARCH is the successful and thriving organization that it is today. I hope I have been able to help contribute to even just a small part of its development.
To the students that continue to dedicate their time to volunteer, thank you for showing up for your community and working to create the future you crave. You all hold so much potential and I will continue to think of your energy when I find myself needing to be inspired next.
As for the mentors of SEARCH (both past and present), your knowledge, mentorship, and guidance is invaluable. Thank you for hearing my ideas and contributing your own thoughts to the organization. But most importantly, thank you for answering all of my endless questions and spending the time to let me “pick your brain!” I greatly value the time that I have been able to spend learning from you all.
SEARCH also has so many wonderful partners, stakeholders, and supporters – from the Saskatchewan Health Authority and Four Directions, to the universities, the various community organizations, donors (and the list goes on), your support is so important and you showed up because you saw the same magic in SEARCH as I do! I hope you will remain connected and continue to support this dynamic organization.
And lastly, to the SEARCH clients I want to say that I have enjoyed every moment we have spent together. Your smiling faces have brought so much joy to the clinic and made every ounce of effort worth it. You have also shared your stories with me and inspired me to continue to pursue creating change at other levels. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for spending your time with us at SEARCH. The clinic was always the highlight of my week and I can’t wait to come back and visit again!
Change is hard, but inevitable and I hope to continue to embrace it even if it means saying good-bye for now. I leave knowing that you are in good hands with a fantastic and passionate new executive director and a very talented and dedicated board of directors. These individuals have so much to give and I know they will surprise us all with what they will be able to accomplish!
Each and every group mentioned above has in part helped steer me in the direction of public policy and I am excited to begin my Masters in September at the University of Toronto. I truly believe that our learning and development is never quite done.
Thank you for being a part of this journey with me!
