Fall Professional Development Workshops!

Registration is open for our Fall 2019 Professional Development workshops! PD is one of the ways we give back to our student volunteers. Post-secondary students are given preference for all of our PD seminars, and occasionally they are only available for SEARCH volunteers. Here’s our line up for the next few months:

Barriers to Health Services – Positive Space Training

Presented in partnership with UR Pride Centre for Sexuality and Gender Diversity.
Date: September 26th (rescheduled)
Time: 4:30 – 7:00pm
Where: ED 315, U of R Campus
Learn about the barriers that queer and trans people face when accessing health institutions in Saskatchewan and across Canada. Even more so, learn about the unique health realities for 2LGBTQIAP+ (two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, asexual, intersex, asexual, pansexual) people. Discover ways that you can make your practice or future practice with 2LGBTQIAP+ people more inclusive and accessible.

Registration is limited to 30 participants. REGISTER NOW!

Naloxone Training

Presented in partnership with the Saskatchewan Health Authority
Date: October 3
Time: 2:30 – 3:30pm
Where: TBA, U of R Campus
Learn about Naloxone (a.k.a. NARCAN), the ‘antidote’ to the effects of opiate overdose. Learn about the signs and symptoms of opiate overdose, and when to administer the drug to a client. At SEARCH, we have a Naloxone Kit on the premises at all times, and it’s a great skill to have in any helping profession as most work places in health and social services have a kit on-site! This training will also be beneficial to you if you or someone you know experiences opiate addiction or uses opiates. Kits will not be distributed at this training, but information on how to acquire one will be presented.

Registration is limited to 15 participants. REGISTER NOW!

Self-Care for Helping Professionals

Presented by Amanda Demarsh, Ranch Ehrlo Society.

Date: November 21, 2019
Time: 4:00 – 5:30pm
Where: TBA, U of R Campus
Are you studying to become a doctor, nurse, social worker, psychologist, or other helping professional? Or do you plan on working in the human services field after convocation? Amanda Demarsh will talk about the importance of caring for yourself in this complex and potentially draining environment, as well as providing tips and tricks for creating your own self-care practice!

Registration is limited to 30 participants. REGISTER NOW!
